The latest victory by the dark forces of Communism has subjected Elian to the ultimate betrayal – return to his father. And not return to any father, but to a man so steeped in communist ideology that he actually fathered a child under the communist system of Fidel Castro.

Soon Elian will be forced to surrender his Mousekett-Ears and return to the island of his birth. There is even a strong possibility that the child will become literate (100 % of the children of Cuba learn to read and write despite living under the godless dictatorship of Fidel Castro.) But this is a literacy obtained without the help of Pokemon, Sesame Street or Ronald McDonald, and most incomprehensible of all, without 500 channels. Imagine, if you will, being forced into a life so bleak, so empty, that you cannot pick up the remote and catch your own smiling face on any channel at any time of the day or night. Imagine if you will, not only being forced to miss your very own mini-series but not even having cable TV!

That's nothing to smile about. Which is why we know that Elian was not actually smiling when he was re-united with his father but was only forced to smile to hide his deep fear and to cope with his abandonment issues. But we can help him. I call for a national referendum to be held immediately on the Oprah Winfrey Show so that we as a nation can, once and for all, decide Elian Gonzalez's fate. It is our constitutional right and our patriotic duty.

America should vote. Was Elian actually smiling when he was returned to his father's arms? Or was the agent standing there just out of the camera's view with his M-17 cold-cocked at young Elian's? You decide. Will Elian need Prozaic, Ritalin, or just a little Robitussin and a night's sleep with his favorite Teddy? What do you think?
